Will receive you in a very professional way, no dull time is passed, relaxed and knows deeply about the details of the tour.

Bairro do Castelo Itinerary, stories and traditions from the foundation to Lisbon’s reconquest. We are going to walk along the streets, alleys, cul-de-sacs and the notable patrimony of Bairro do Castelo, and we are going to hear the stories and traditions of the founding of Lisbon, the Reconquest from the Arabs and the influences and contributions of the Military and Religious Orders.

The Bairro do Castelo (Castle District) tells the story of the ancient Roman castle on the top of the hill, where Lisbon was born. The starting point is Rua do Chão da Feira, and from here onwards you will be involved in the story of this district. We are going to walk in the Alcaçova block, the church of Santa Cruz do Castelo square, the Rua Costa do Castelo and the Palaces adjacent to the castle wall. Alreay at the Dom Fradique patio, we will get to know the Belmonte palace that was erected over the Moor and Roman walls. We will continue through Santo André, Portas do Sol (Sun Doors) and the square and church of S. Tiago (St. James)

The first residence of Lisbon is the Castle, founding matrix of the capital since the reconquest from the Arabs in 1147 and the town’s first growing area. Seen from downhill, the vegetation almost hides the Castle named São Jorge (St. George). Fortress of so many ancient fights, it is a quiet town park with memorable views nowadays. In its surroundings the small civil parish of Castelo, district of contorted alleys whose houses from one side to the other almost touch overhangs. A district that has adapted to the times that has lived, and lives, within the walls that crown the relief of the top of the hill.
