Will receive you in a very professional way, no dull time is passed, relaxed and knows deeply about the details of the tour.

St. Paul’s Place is always referred to, in the travel literature of the 17th and 18th Centuries, as the preferred residence area of the foreign merchants settled in Lisbon. Get to know the streets, the spaces, the houses and the people of the district through this guided tour.

For example, did you know... that St. Paul’s district was reconstructed by Marquês de Pombal? That St. Paul’s Church dates from the 15th Century and was destroyed by the earthquake of 1755? That the Mint was located in this district? We have plenty of stories to tell you. The visit goes along Largo de São Paulo, Public Baths of São Paulo, Rua dos Remolares, Cais do Sodré, Ribeira Market, Garden and Rua D. Luís, Conde Barão, Rua da Boavista, Bica’s district and Rua de São Paulo, aiming to cross its history and memory with the exploration of present experiences.

The parish seems to have been created in 1412, the date that was inscribed over the portal of the ancient church. A manuscript referring to the constitution of the civil parishes of Lisbon before 1755 documents its inception, at the time, in a small chapel of the ancient “Travessa do Carvão”. The oldest known representation of the ancient church is that of the image of Lisbon, by Braunio, dated 1572. In that print we can easily recognise the ancient church of St. Paul’s presenting its façade towards the Tagus and, in the back, two rows of buildings that draw the connection with the place “Cata-que-farás” and Remolares, developing a route later established through the Rua Direita de São Paulo.

IMPORTANT:
- Minimum of 4 adults,
- Groups of less than 4 adults are accepted but price is the same as for 4 adults.

ITENERARY:
- Meeting at Praça São Paulo
- Guided tour to the patrimony, histories and traditions of St. Paul’s Place or District (Bairro de S. Paulo)
- Traditional snack at Bairro de S. Paulo
