Description
It was the city of Porto that gave birth to the name of Portugal when it was called Portus Cale, Porto is known worldwide for Port Wine.
The cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia are joined by several bridges, notably the Maria Pia, inaugurated on November 4, 1877, of rail traffic but currently closed, and the D. The river of Vila Nova de Gaia, for many centuries, was a river port, where several goods were exported, with special emphasis on the Port Wine, and where the Port Wine Cellars are located.
On the river Douro are moored the Rabelo boats, used in the past as a means of transporting Port Wine from the Demarcated Region of the Douro.
