Description
Castro Verde, belonging to the district of Beja, is one of the most important areas of cereal plains in Portugal and Europe. It actually is a reference in Steppe-Land-Birds. Bustards, Little Bustards, Black-Bellied Sand Grouse, European Roller and Rufus Bush Robin are some of the most emblematic species that can be observed in the cereal plains of the Alentejo.
Vale do Guadiana is a region characterized by mountains, cork oak groves and streams, where some of the most spectacular of Europe’s Birds of Prey can be observed, such as the Black Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle, Spanish Imperial Eagle or Bonelli’s Eagle. Specimens of Great Spotted Cuckoos, Blue Rock Thrushes or Crag Martins can also be observed.
As the spring colors appear, many other species like the Montagu’s Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Bee Eaters, and the Tawny Pipit arrive as the courtship dances of the Great and Little Bustards begin. During the winter, colonies of Common Cranes are one of the attractions in this region.
So now we challenge you to come with us and discover the secrets of this region.
All year round the observation of more than 80 species of birds is possible in groups of up to 6 persons accompanied by a guide. In this area, the experience will last 8 hours (including transport and meal breaks).
We commit to perform these observations with the least possible ecological impact.
