Alqueva: Natural Escape

The perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city while getting to know one of the best kept secrets in Portugal. Get in the van, stretch your legs and just turn the relax mode on.

We start this day by driving south east towards the Alqueva dam, the largest dam and artificial lake (250 square km) in Western Europe. Upon arrival, hop aboard for a 1.30 hour boat ride with wine and finger food tasting. Take your time to see the surrounding ecosystem, immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the clear waters.

Afterwards, we go to Moura for a nice Alentejo’ meal, so you may need some extra room for the food at your disposal. You’ll have a great way to ‘walk’ it off… in a jeep safari. There won’t be lions or zebras but instead, more docile animals like indigenous birds, geese, ostriches, horses or wild sheep.

Don’t miss the vast olive grove creating a beautiful wavy green landscape. See also the history of the region at the Museum of the Strawberry Tree and get a taste of some fruit-related products before heading back to Lisbon.
